Ali Gordon Ph.D.
Dr. Ali P. Gordon is the Dean of the College of Engineering at Wichita State University
and an award-winning educator. Previously, he served as a professor in the Department
of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, Florida.
His research focuses on the durability modeling of structural materials in complex service environments.
To support these activities, he has accrued over $8M in funding from prestigious sources,
including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL),
NASA, and numerous industrial partners.
Dr. Gordon is a four-time awardee of the US Air Force's Summer Faculty Fellowship,
participating in ongoing collaborations with colleagues at AFRL at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.
He and his students have authored nearly 200 peer-reviewed articles, two of which have been recognized as
best papers in American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) journals. In 2021, he was elevated to the
rank of Fellow of ASME.
Over his career, Dr. Gordon has taught 12 different courses, mentoring over 5,000 students.
His leadership in engineering education includes directing an aerospace-based study abroad course in
Brazil and leading the NSF-DoD REU site on Hypersonics.
He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and
a B.S. in Mathematics from Morehouse College.
