Fracture Course Notes for NASA Electronic Parts and Packaging Program (NEPP)

Lecture Materials

In Fall 2024, Dr. Shri Argarwal, Coordinator of the NASA Electronic Parts Assurance Group (NEPAG), NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory invited UCF to develop a stand-alone collection of lecture notes on Fracture Mechanics. Links to initial drafts of these notes are included here. When coupled with textbooks and other materials, the notes could support NASA engineers’ getting up to speed on the topic. Linked here are the slides associated with the course. These lecture notes are a derivative of the notes used Fracture Mechanics in Design (EML 6547) instructed at UCF’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. The materials were co-developed with graduate students Ms. Lena Reid and Mr. Pedro Diaz Martinez. Other UCF graduate students contributed to the effort. They are Mr. Jorge Echeverria, Mr. Michael Ackerman, Mr. Herman Flores, Mr. Austin Harkins, and Mr. Andrew McNulla. Questions, corrections, or feedback about the materials can be directed to Ali P. Gordon.

Access

At the current time, the materials are available for review by the NASA JPL team. These users simply need to develop a user login with a jpl.nasa.gov email address then login for access. The first four sets of lecture notes, however, are available to all users regardless of login status. For more information, simply reach out to ali@ucf.edu.
